For my magazine, I looked at many professional ones to give me an idea of what to include and how to structure my magazine to make it seem of the same standard as them. The magazines I looked at as examples were actual college magazines rather than magazines for completely different things, I choose these types as they are similar to what my magazines was and something to relate to whilst making my own. A similarity between my magazine and the example I used was that they have a similar layout. I choose this as it's very simple and is very well structured out on the magazine. It also allows more points to be on the front cover than other magazines such as Rolling Stones magazine, Forbes magazine and Heat magazine. A difference between both magazines however is that my magazine uses bold images such as the stars to grab the audience into reading them as they contrast with the rest of magazine. Whereas the professional magazine uses mainly colours that blend well together making it look more presentable rather than attracting the audience's attention much quicker. I choose this because a magazine needs to stand out from the rest to be noticed. The audience would rather have a magazine grab their attention instantly rather than the magazine being looked at last. My magazine uses conventions of real media products by using many contrasting colours to attract attention from the customers. If a magazine has more colours, then the audience can distinguish what areas of information goes with what and what does not. The colours i used go well together but also contrast at the same time. I choose purple as it resembles royalty, showing that the students who come to QE have a high standard of education among them and the college itself is very respected among others. I choose the colour blue as it depicts emotion and is a very popular colour. I choose the colour yellow as it is very bright, resembling the sun. This colour also represents caution, this link well with the colour purple as you must have a high standard of knowledge to get into QE. I choose white to be the background as it expresses plainness, making the audience take more notice in the writing and not the background. The title on my magazine is very different to the example I used as the title on the other magazine is plain and simple, whereas mine is more bold and it slightly resembles that a young child has drawn it. This makes the audience associate the magazine with education. The photography of both mine and College magazine are similar in that they both have females on the cover and they both show happiness as they are smiling. However, my magazine contrast with College magazine as my front cover resembles victory which shows the college and its students achieve very highly and are successful. Another similarity between both photos is that they both are wearing everyday clothes, this makes the audience relate to the people on the covers and also shows that the way you dress doesn't affect your position at QE. The props I used on my front cover were used to resemble a victory, linking with the idea that QE is a very successful college. The shot distance I used was to show my models entire body, showing body language and how she feels with what she has won. My contents page fits well with my front cover aswell as contrast with it. My contents page has a plain white background and the colour of the writing is also different. This was to show a difference to the front cover and keep the audience interested with the magazine. The same colours cannot be used over and over again as the audience will lose interest and will not be attracted to the magazine anymore. For my contents page, i still used the colour purple as this colour is what the college is associated with For the writing, I used black writing for the information on the contents page with an orange glow around it to keep the audience interested in my magazine. Black is the opposite to white, making the writing stand out grabbing the audience's attention. The colour orange represent happiness and enthusiasm suggesting QE is a happy and the students are motivated to do well to succeed. Columns were included for basic reading but instead of keeping the text in straight lines, I choose to rotate them many degrees either clockwise or anti-clockwise. I choose this to represent danger, showing every student that went to QE went through different stages throughout their time here. Also, I used this technique to make my magazine stand out from others and make mine more appealing. On my contents page, I used a picture of two people. One person was happy whereas the other was jealous of her success. This suggests competition showing QE is very competitive among other colleges. Also, I decided to include a fact about the college. This was for the past students to relate to their memories of the college. I didn't really use an example for my contents page, I just stayed with my ideas.

My magazine had no specific target audience apart from teenagers who are either; at college, past students or people who have an interest in coming to QE. I chose the person on my front cover as I felt it would be best appropriate to put someone on the front cover who is similar to myself in some ways so I can relate to them and put things in the magazine about them. I also decided on this person as I thought the majority of people who are at QE are in the same or similar social group to them. I wouldn't really consider my model to be in more than one particular social group. This would suggest that my magazine appeals to a wider audience. Without being stereotypical, everyone should be able to relate to the magazine in some ways as it is about college experiences and not what people look like. However, it is very had to not be stereotypical so therefore, I believe my magazine to appeal more to the 'common' social group as I think the majority of people are in this social group. My model may have certain traits of other social groups, such as 'emo' group as she does wear quite a lot of dark clothes which could be seen as that she is from that social group.

Photoshop
I have learned from Photoshop to make a front cover for my magazine. How to make an ideal magazine aimed at people of a young age group who are either at college, been at college or a teenager who wants to go to college. This will benefit me as I am considering doing Media at university and using photoshop has made things that much easier. It could also benefit me even if I choose not to do Media at university as I've enjoyed making my magazine so I might just use photoshop as a hobby.
From indesign I have learned to use software I have never experienced in my life. Indesign has helped me produce a contents page for my magazine. This could benefit me for the same reasons why photoshop has benefited me.

An Apple Mac has taught me how to work a computer much quicker and more business like. This could benefit me as I've always had an interest in making a business and knowing how to use an Apple Mac is good place to start.
I've never used a camera like these before so I've learned how to take pictures, zooming and checking pictures. I've really just learned the basics of these camera's. This could benefit me as the same reason as an Apple Mac has as I've had an interest at running a business and a camera like this would benefit a lot.

Blogger was really easy to understand, I still have the odd problem but I am nearly there to learning most things about blogger. This could beneift me as it has with Media, making sure homework deadlines are met. It could also help like an Apple Mac or a camera would, for a business.
