For my magazine to work in a professional manner, the models need to conform to the forms and conventions of the rock/indie genre of music in which my magazine is associated with. Therefore, I have constructed research looking at a variety of both female and male models to help make my own models be associated with the same kind of music by conforming to the stereotypical standards of the rock.indie genre of music.
Female Models
For my model's make-up, I have researched types of make-up female lead singers would generally wear during a typical photo shoot by both Kerrang! or Rocksound. From the research gathered, I have found that the female artists tend to have limited make-up, generally consisting of eyeliner and eye shadow mainly. Theses help reflect a vibrant and young appearance of the model. The images above highlight this, which shows that the make-up is used to full effect and isn't overdone. When looking at the hair colour, brightly tones like red, yellow/blonde, ginger and possibly over fairly bright colours could easily be used, which again further constructs the vibrant young image of the featured artists. There are in some circumstances where the female artist may appear sexualised with heavy make-up etc. This is primarily done to appeal to the male target audience as they outnumber the female's by 60:40 in purchasing the magazine. Therefore, when choosing the models to feature within my magazine, I will have to take these techniques into account to help create a continuos product throughout. Fortunately, I have found 4 models who fit this pattern and are willing to be models, thus I can now construct this technique by creating a stereotypical image of my female models in my own magazine.
Male Models
When looking at the male artists featured in both Kerrang! and Rocksound, they tend to mainly offer the charisma appeal as they appear both confident and serious. From the research, the clothing they seem to wear tend to be more of the contrasting colours of black and white, however there are certain cases in which brightly colours of blue, red and yellow being used. Therefore, I decided that for my male models, they will primarily seem to wear something dark with maybe bright colours featured on that. I have found 2 male models who fit this stereotype and will therefore use them.
